Measuring blinds a task that requires a lot of focus and patience. In order to get the perfect measurement for your home, you first need to recognise where you want your blinds to sit. Some windows are inside a recess, and if they are you need to decide whether you want these blinds inside or out of the recess. If your window opens inwards, you may want to consider fitting the blinds outside of the recess, allowing you to open the window a bit as well as having the blinds down. If the window opens outwards, then you can freely choose between the two.

When you are measuring inside of a recess, use a metal tape measure to ensure that the data you get is as accurate as possible. You also want to measure the width and the drop of the recess in three places each. When measuring the width, you want to measure the top, middle and bottom of the recess. This is done to ensure that the blind does not get stuck if the recess gets narrower as it goes down. If it does, then the blinds can be adjusted to fit it. It is also important to note any protrusions that could affect the operation of the blind. The same idea applies when measuring the drop, however, you need to measure the left side, middle and right side of the recess. By measuring the drop in three places, you can provide data that can allow us to again adjust the blinds to better fit the recess. You also need to measure the depth of the recess in order to know whether the blinds can fit in the recess, or how far away from the window they can sit.

If you choose to have your blinds outside of the recess, you only have to measure the centre of the drop and the centre of the width. Some people tend to let the blinds overlap the recess by around 50mm in order to reduce any light that might get through the gap between blinds and the wall.
